A Hero Returns

GILGAMESH
LA-Z-BOY

March 18 – 27, 2010
At the Big Secret Theatre
In the EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts

Following its sold-out world premiere run at the 2009 High Performance Rodeo, the One Yellow Rabbit Performing Ensemble brings the world’s oldest epic back to the stage with dynamism, wit and trademark physical flair.

Two-thirds divine and one-third human, Gilgamesh sits on his upholstered throne, the unconquerable king of great-walled Uruk, the ancient Sumerian city located in what is now Iraq. When the people grow tired of his tyranny, the gods create the wild-man Enkidu to chastise the power-mad ruler–but, after an earth-shattering battle, the two become fast friends and embark on a quest for immortality.

From the monstrous demon Humbaba to the Bull of Heaven, the Twin Peaks to the Waters of Death, their epic journey is also a moving story about friendship, the nature of happiness, and of learning to be, above all else, human.

Directed by Blake Brooker
Staged by Denise Clarke
Featuring Denise Clarke, Andy Curtis and Michael Green
Sound Design by Richard McDowell
Technical Director Fiona Kennedy
Lighting Designed by Scott Baier
Costumes Designed by Deneen McArthur
